ARMA Calgary Chapter Profile

Calgary, Alberta, Canada, is a dynamic and growing cosmopolitan centre with a population of over one million residents. We are home to some of the largest companies in Canada and continue to attract new businesses to the area. The Chapter’s geographic area covers the entire portion of southern Alberta and draws membership from such cities as Red Deer, Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat

Calgary’s population is highly educated, technologically advanced and volunteer oriented.  The commitment of Calgarians to volunteer organizations is among the highest in the country. As a result we have a number of business organizations that are active within the city. For example: the Association for Information and Image Management (AIIM), the Archives Society of Alberta (ASA), Alberta Association of Library Technicians (AALT), the Canadian Information Processing Society, (CIPS), and Project Management Institute (PMI), all having active chapters in Calgary.  ARMA Calgary Chapter maintains a close relationship with many of these like-minded organizations and many of our members belong to multiple associations. We jointly promote other business association events that we believe would be of interest to our members.

ARMA Calgary Chapter was chartered in 1976 and became an incorporated not-for-profit society #50247384 in 1983 under the "Societies Act of the Province of Alberta", Canada.  We are governed  by registered bylaws with an elected Board of Directors.  Those voting positions are:  President, Past President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership, PR & Marketing, Education and Programs.  Additionally, the Chapter has non-voting, appointed positions for standing committees:  Newsletter, Website, Webmaster, Archives and ICRM Representative.

Our Chapter surpassed the 300 members mark in April 2008.  We are the largest Chapter in Canada and third largest Chapter internationally. Our membership demographics are Oil & Gas Industry (42%); Technology, Consulting, Records & Information Management (RIM) Services (23%); Public Sector including all levels of government and regulatory bodies (14%); Education (4%) and “Other” category makes up the final group (17%).
